Reel Feels

DEVELOPMENT
Reel Feels is an unconventional web app that I created to help you choose a movie based on your mood. The concept is simple, but not simplistic. You'll be asked several bizarre questions that will attempt to filter through movie suggestions to match what you're feeling at that moment. The Reel Feels app utilizes The MovieDB API to maintain the most relevant list of movies for its suggestions.

Design foundation

Fonts
This app required some flexible fonts that would be extremely legible, while leveraging the heavy contrast of the interface. I chose to use Roboto as the primary font to emphasize the light-hearted language and comical attitude.
Colors
The colors and button states follow suite with bold saturation and contrast.

Solving the problem

The problem: Hopelessly searching through Netflix, Hulu, and the like to find the perfect movie or show to satisfy your current mood.

Most of us have likely been there. With that in mind, I knew there had to be some engaging way to search through a movie catalog without expending too much mental energy. I felt that simply answering a few odd questions might help with finding a solid movie match — or at the very least, point you in the right direction. Lastly, limiting the movie results to a max of three should help eliminate paralysis by indecision.

Wrapping it all up

Though this app may not be relevant for everyone, it could still be considered for those who need just a little help deciding upon a flick after a mentally draining day at work — or even just to get the wheels turning.
